Library seeks access to more e-books (The Findlay Courier) Some publishing companies deny libraries the ability to purchase e-books entirely or make them cost prohibitive for them to purchase.  Several libraries across Ohio are urging federal and state legislators to pressure those publishers to change their policies.

The rise in domestic energy production and manufacturing is expected to drastically decrease the trade deficit by 2020.

NAMII changes its name to America Makes (Pittsburg Business Times) To kickstart a more unified U.S.-based additive manufacturing and 3-D printing movement, the Youngstown, Ohio-based National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute is changing its name to America Makes.

New Balanced Supercomputer, AMOS, to Operate at Petascale (Scientific Computing) Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has unveiled a new petascale supercomputing system, AMOS. AMOS is noted for its speed and power, and in combination with Rensselaer’s existing supercomputer, Watson, the university believes it uniquely positions them as a world leader in data-related research, innovation, and education.

Purdue wants to change STEM teacher education (WBAA) Five colleges at Purdue are partnering on an integrated STEM teacher education program that aims for educators to learn to combine scientific inquiry, technological design, engineering design and mathematical analysis. Purdue is hiring six professors who will all be connected to the College of Education, with three positions related to Science and one each related to Technology, Engineering and Agriculture.

Supercomputing upgrade to improve big data at Postal Service (FCW) USPS has issued a five-year $16.7 million contract to build four supercomputers to add to its existing operations. The hope is that the new supercomputers will collect more data for the USPS, thus increasing efficiency and cutting overall costs.

US Manufacturers: Build It and We Will Help (IndustryWeek) A recent HSBC Global Connections Trade Report said that 67% of U.S. business leaders surveyed expect export and import volumes to rise in the next six months. The report suggests that international demand for infrastructure goods and investment equipment is fueling that rise.
