Tony Eller

Network Operations Manager

Anthony 'Tony' Eller serves the Network Operations Manager for the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet), overseeing daily technical operations for the statewide research and education network.

Eller directs the engineering staff on all aspects of maintaining OARnet’s 1,800 miles of fiber optic network, designed to support colleges and universities, K-12 schools, state and local government and health care facilities. He is responsible for strategic planning associated with the network infrastructure, including: selection and implementation of the optical and switching equipment and configuration management to meet current and future needs of clients. He directs all operations for the installation and service provision of infrastructure systems: LAN, WAN, fiber backbone and data networks.

Recently, Eller provided design and consultation services for the development and deployment of the current OARnet broadband network backbone, increasing the speed of its bandwidth from 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to 100 Gbps and providing connection to Internet2’s international 100 Gbps network backbone.

Earlier at OARnet, Eller had served as a Senior Optical Engineer. Prior to that, he held several management and engineering posts at Communication Engineering Consultants, Qwest and LCI International. Eller also served as a Microwave Telephone Equipment Operator for the United States Marine Corps during Desert Shield and Desert Storm and has studied U.S. History at The Ohio State University.
