The IFLA World Library and Information Congress visits one of seven different global regions each year, with stops in Cape Town, South Africa; Lyon, France; Helsinki, Finland and San Juan, Puerto Rico in recent years. This year the congress lands in Columbus, Ohio. Here's how a local group brought it to the heart of Ohio and what to expect from this year's congress.
Ohio State
I think I have the best job in America. I have the responsibility of leading the research enterprise of one of the largest universities in the U.S. – The Ohio State University. I oversee an organization that employs about 450 people who work in a variety of occupations, from climate modeler to computer scientist to fish hatchery education specialist.
The grand challenges we face in the 21st century are monumental. Solving these important national and global problems will require creative new approaches in science and technology. But responding to these 21st century challenges will prove even more difficult in light of the economic realities facing the nation and the world.
